It's springtine and the races are coming fast and furious. I'm heading to the 5 Peaks race in Breckenridge, CO this weekend. Mike Kloser and I decided to race as a warm-up for the Elk Mountain Grand Traverse on March 30th. I've raced the 5 Peaks two times in the past. Once with Pine Needle Mountaineering owner Miles Venzara and once with Wilson, Wyoming's Chris Kroger. Race director, Pete Swenson does a great job setting a course that showcases the peaks surrounding his hometown.
In spite of the calendar calling it spring, winter plans to return this week. This should make for an interesting race and a great warm-up for the Grand Traverse.
The Five Peaks (T5P), presented by CAMP, is North America's highest ski mountaineering race gaining 8,000 feet of vertical (Long Course) in the Ten Mile Range near Breckenridge Ski Resort.
If you're interested in racing The Five Peaks, but have never raced a ski mountaineering race, it is STRONGLY RECOMMENDED that you race at least one of the COSMIC events in Colorado or any of the USSMA events listed. Can't make it to one of those events? Then we STRONGLY RECOMMEND you race the Short Course!
Hmmm, maybe we should STRONGLY CONSIDER the "short course"......
