Essential gear for the 2013 Ski Mountaineering World Championships

Verde, SCARPA, and SkiTrab athlete Scott Simmons recently got a call-up to represent the United States at the International Ski Mountaineering Federation’s (ISMF) World Championships in France.
He’ll need to pack more than his suitcase of courage and San Juans-trained lungs as he and his compatriots tangle with the finest skimo racers in the world.
Here is the race-tested gear Scott will pack for the February 15th race in Pelvoux-Puy Saint Vincent-Vallouise!
  • SkiTrab World Cup Race Aero skis
  • SkiTrab Vertical Carbon poles
  • Scarpa Alien 1.0 boots
  • SkiTrab race bindings
  • SkiTrab SkinSuit
  • Julbo‘s Stunt sunglasses
  • SkiTrab race helmet
  • Outdoor Research hat, glove, warm-ups
  • SkiTrab World Cup Aero pac
  • CampUSA shovel, harness, crampons, skins, via ferrata, carbon probe
  • Pieps Vector Transceiver
Apart from these physical tools, Scott will be packing sentimental good luck charms from his two young sons, Colby and Quinn. Colby decorated Scott’s race pack with his patented purple and lime green duct tape job. Scott will think back to Quinn’s comment about his 2011 World’s finish…”40th place is lame, dad.” The most important tangible Scott will pack is his hardheaded, bull-in-a-china-shop personality; a key assest for performing well in the world of competitive racing.
